Percy Lavon Julian Initiative at Discovery

I wanted to remind everyone about the new Percy Lavon Julian Initiative (PLJ) AmeriCorps VISTA position at Discovery. The AmeriCorps VISTA position is an exciting opportunity to develop this new program that works with minority populations to develop entrepreneurial skills and interdisciplinary education.

The VISTA position will be closing the last week in April and we hope to have the position filled in the first week of May.  Please share this announcement with your listserves and contacts.

The VISTA will work on the two main branches of the PLJ in partnership with WARF staff and community collaborators.
The two branches are:

1. Knowledge transfer:  A key objective of the PLJ initiative is to create a meaningful interface between the business acceleration resources at the University of Wisconsin Madison,  WARF and community partners to provide personalized, individual assistance to otherwise unaffiliated minorities, women, and disadvantaged business enterprise owners and inventors in Dane County with the goal of providing the necessary skills and knowledge for new entrepreneurs and small business owners to take their ideas to market.

2.Knowledge acquisition:  This program is designed to provide an interdisciplinary education (with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, art and math,) for K-12 students, and targets racial/ethnic minorities provide necessary scientific educationfor children.  The goal of this program is to increase minority children representation in the math and science fields.
